The best time to meditate is a matter of personal preference and may vary depending on your schedule and lifestyle. Some people prefer to meditate in the morning as a way to start their day on a peaceful note, while others find it more beneficial to meditate in the evening as a way to wind down before bed. There’s no right or wrong time to meditate. Just be consistent and make it a part of your daily Meditation routine.
Let’s see in detail which are the pros and cons of doing meditation in each time of the day.
Meditate Before Sunrise
According to Yoga tradition, Brahmamuhurta is the forty-eight- minute period (muhurta) immediately before sunrise, which is thought to be the most auspicious time of the day. This makes it the best time for worship, meditation, or any type of religious practice; serious spiritual aspirants rise before it begins so that they may take full advantage of the time.
Meditate in the Morning
Even if many of us can be strong enough to wake up every day at 5 to meditate, most of us will prefer to wait the sunrise to wake up and meditate. The moment still remains very auspicious for Meditation, as the mind is still relaxed, while the distractions of the day are still to come. After a good morning Meditation, we will be able to start the active part of the day with a clean mind.
Meditate at noon (midday)
The period of noon is called Vishnu Sandhya by yoga practitioners: this break at lunch time can help us to recenter our mind and is indeed helpful in our busy lifes. Let’s find a calm place in the office, or in the car, or in a place where we can remain undisturbed for some minutes.
Meditate in the evening before sleep
Meditation in the evening is a great way to stop the busy and active part of the day and start the evening period at home. Meditating at night is indeed a great way to wind down after the day. Our mind will calm down, our muscles will relax and we will be able to get asleep better after meditation.
Emergency Meditation any time of the day
Do not feel obliged to wait the evening if you feel in need of a moment of relaxation. If you feel that a 5 minutes emergency meditation can help you, just find a quiet place at whatever time of the day and please yourself.
